If so then you were a child of the 80s and early 90s – a glorious time when the arcade game was king, and the thought of ever having a game of such quality in the home was nought but a fool’s dream. Ah how the world has changed. But enough with the nostalgic ramblings…..oh wait no, actually nowhere near enough. Arcade games really were.

I didn't play a great deal of PC games when I was younger but of those I had i played a lot.
Here are my favourites, what are yours?
POD Planet of death Top 100 computer games of the 90s Hospital Grand Theft Auto Theme Park Worms 3D Movie maker does that count as game?
Warhammer: Shadow of the horned rat Likely forgot a handful, but those would be my favorite PC games of the 90' Oh, a lot.
I was more of a PC gamer back then.
Here are some greats I still enjoy to this day: XCOM X-Wing Tie Fighter Lemmings Colonization + Civilization Warcraft 1+2 SimCity 2000 Starcraft Diablo Baldur's Gate Thief The Incredible Machine Age of Empires Https://agohome.ru/100-games/games-for-ipad-4-2-100.html will just say the three games that I bought along with top 100 computer games of the 90s first PC back then.
You can imagine why I stayed to PC for the rest years till today.
Half-Life is the only game I ever play back in 1998 and it did change the way we play FPS games.
Riven and Myst :- I'm replaying Myst now, actually.
They are tough - truly puzzle solving games, and they don't mess around about it.
Really, too many favorites for me to list them all :- I'm showing my darker side but there was a racing game I had for PC where you could run over sheep.
I was an Amiga gamer exclusively until 1991.
Then I started to move toward PC gaming.
I'd drop in the original System Shock and Marathon franchise in addition to much of what's already stated.
The only known game from the PC I played was Counter Strike.
I'd rather play with bots who only swing knives.
Because I have more fun with that,'cause back then I dont't have a PS1 to continue my gaming career.
Omicron, Messiah, BladeRunner, Unreal, Riven, Anochronox.
I hope to see modern remakes of some of those one day.
Yeah, I did play Myst, notice how it is not on my list :P Joke aside, Myst looked really good at release, but even though I liked adventure games, Myst often lacked emidiete responce, top 100 computer games of the 90s tended to take to 100 day online games when it came to riddles, and problem solving.
I know many people consider it a watermark, but personally I did not like it that much.
Personal oppinion though, I am not stating that the game was bad, just that it was not for me.
The original Half-life, Quake, Diablo, Starcraft, Jedi Knight and Tomb Raider come to mind as well as Planescape Torment and the then beautiful Unreal.
But my favorite 1990's PC game was definitely Doom 2.
I will try to keep the list as short as possible of the games that I played that I really liked: Half-Life Unreal Quake II Sin Grim Fandango Forsaken.
My favorite would have to be Half-Life, it was such a revolutionary game for it's time.
Also, notice that many of those games came out in 1998, Half-Life, Unreal, Forsaken, Sin, Grim Fandango, Need For Speed III, Moto Racer 2.
I won't even go into the console world where there it too had revolutionary games that came out in 1998 like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or other PC Games that I haven't played that came out in 1998 like Thief.
Other notable exception would be Quake II Mission Pack The Reckoning that came out in the summer of 1998 which I am playing through.
What surprises me is that I am still trying to play through and buy and finish playing games that came out in 1998!
That's how good that year was.
I recently discovered this gem.
I really wish it was completed.
Only about half of the game was released.
Oh hell yea I love soo many of these.
Add the original Unreal to that list.
Was a great campaign.
So there's only few that I played.
CounterStrike Half Life Starcraft That few.
I completely forgot about the simpsons pc game called Virtual Springfield.
Its not a great game by any means but I had quite a bit of fun playing it.
I completely forgot about the simpsons pc game calledVirtual Springfield.
Its not a great game by any means check this out I had quite a bit of fun playing it.
I never heard of it.
Virtual Springfield sounds like Hit and Run.
Hit and Run was really fun on PS2.
I have quite a few CD-ROM games in top 100 computer games of the 90s collection.
As well as some old software on 5.
Of course since I've become more of top 100 computer games of the 90s PC gamer, I've gone back and played top 100 computer games of the 90s awesome games from then.
I never could get into RTS games.
I wish I could, they look addictive but for whatever reason I just can't get past the learning curve and tutorials.
I also found that I sucked at games like Stronghold.
My little villages always got conquered.

My little villages always got conquered.
Picked it up and I love that game now.
Ultima VII Part I: The Black Gate + Forge of Virtue expansion Ultima VII Part II: The Serpent Isle + Silver Seed expansion Hands down the best RPG of the 90's.
I really need to get to playing this.
Got it on sale from GOG some time ago.
When I was a kid I remember playing a disc of pc game demos and I used to get frustrated that I couldn't play more because I would check this out into a few of them.
One I recall had me going around a village in the rain conversing with an elephant.
Im also trying to remeber the name of a helicopter shooter that was on that disc.
Captain Claw Quake 2 Unreal Myst and Riven Curse of Monkey Island Master of Orion 2 Starcraft Half Life I can't remember that one game I play with a cousin of mine.
At first I thought it was Blood Omen.
Someone out there had a full list of rpg that has some knight, dwarves as char.
And they can find equips thrue the dungeons.
Like Elven sword or something.
I'm working on a project Pc Gaming!
I would ask you if you could fill in on this https://agohome.ru/100-games/100-ways-to-die-game-online.html it will take you less than 2 mins and help us on this big project!
PS: im sorry if there are some english mistakes.
And by the way are you knowledgeable with PC games?
And you guys didnt mention Ecstatica 1 + 2.

Clearly Metacritic has it right this time.
With Diablo, Blizzard put a different spin on action RPGs, and its randomised maps and loot system came to epitomise the genre.
Homeworld Ratings Metacritic User: 8.
Agnus Dei made link excellent background music while studying for exams in high school.

Fitting handmaidens to her divinity.
Thief: The Dark Project Ratings Metacritic User: 9.

A direct sequel to System Shock 2 is finally in development to the franchise.

Honourable mentions A number of great games did not make this list.
Some of them made the GameRankings top 10, while others just missed the various cut-offs.
Some had fewer https://agohome.ru/100-games/mmorpg-free-games-list-top-100.html the necessary number of reviews, but rated highly, while others were beaten out of the top 10 by a hair.
Unreal Tournament 1999 Ratings Metacritic User: 9.
GameRankings also ranks it in its top 10, so it deserves a mention.
Day of the Tentacle Ratings Metacritic User: 9.
The game is a point-and-click adventure title originally built on the LucasArts SCUMM engine, and was critically acclaimed but only a moderate commercial success.
Firaxis remade it in 2012, and in addition to spawning a series of sequels it also inspired many games like it.
Planescape: Torment Ratings Metacritic User: 9.
However, Torment rates higher on Metacritic, and is my favourite Black Isle game of top 100 computer games of the 90s era.
The plot and characters were excellently written, and are fondly remembered by the cult of PC gamers that played the game.

With lower-priced parts, the continued ease of building a PC, and platforms like Steam selling titles at rock bottom prices, PC gaming is more popular than ever.
Many gamers including myself are just now dipping their toes into PC gaming.
Since many of us played almost exclusively on consoles for the past two to four decades, we missed out on a great deal of classic PC gaming experiences.
This was an era rife with innovative titles that altered the course of gaming history.
This list was not top 100 computer games of the 90s to put together considering the number of genre-defining classics released at the time.
However, we think it will help introduce newcomers to must-play titles.
For everyone else, it serves as a nice trip down memory lane.
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings Release date: Sep 30, 1999 Publisher: Microsoft Real Time Strategy titles were abundant on PC back in the 90s.
Even with so much competition within the genre, Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings managed to stand out upon release.
Unlike other RTS titles of the time, this one was set in a realistic Medieval Europe where players had to play through actual historical battles.
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is now considered a classic of the genre.
If you enjoyed the conversations and character development of Mass Effect and Dragon Age, know that it all started with this title.
It set the standard for other games using these rules including: Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment.
A truly influential title.
Civilization II Release date: Feb 26, 1996 Publisher: MicroProse The first Civilization introduced the concept of starting a civilization during prehistoric times and advancing it toward the modern age.
Civilization II takes everything that worked before and further refined those gameplay elements.
Particularly, there is a greater balance between military might and diplomacy.
Set in a fictional modern day setting, players take on the role of either the GDI Click the following article Defense Initiative or The Brotherhood of Nod.
Diablo Release date: Dec 31, 1996 Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment Diablo distinguished itself in many ways back in the day.
Unlike other fantasy games, the combat was in real time.
The game also featured randomized dungeons with different items and enemy types.
This meant players would never have the same experience twice.
On top of that, Diablo even had online multiplayer; a feature that further expanded its replayability.
Its sequels would add and refine elements, but the first game top 100 computer games of the 90s a new standard for the genre that is still felt today.
This is arguably the most important FPS game ever released.
You know a game is good when it is still fun to play nearly 25 years after its release.
Duke Nukem 3D Release date: Jan 29, 1996 Publisher: GT Interactive Like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D is another important entry in the FPS genre.
Both games also came with their share of controversy due to their over-the-top depictions of violence.
Duke Nukem 3D took things further with the way it portrayed sex and objectified women.
Despite the controversy, Duke Nukem 3D was a solid FPS game with great level design, interactivity, and overall gameplay.
As brilliant as these titles are, they owe their existence to the original PC Fallout titles.
Though Fallout 2 could easily fit on this list, we went with the first game since it introduced so many series staples.
This includes the Wasteland, The Brotherhood of Steel, super mutants, and the iconic Pip-Boy.
Grim Fandango Release date: Oct 30, 1998 Publisher: LucasArts LucasArts released a number of classic Point-and-Click adventure games in the 90s.
Its unique art style, clever writing, and head-scratching puzzles have all withstood the test of time.
A remastered edition is currently available on PC, consoles, and even mobile devices.
Half-Life Release date: Nov 19, 1998 Publisher: Sierra Studios While Doom and Duke Nukem 3D popularized FPS games, Half-Life helped expand the genre like never before.
Half-Life had a strong emphasis on story; something unheard of in the genre at the time.
On top of its intriguing sci-fi plot, Half-Life featured excellent gameplay mechanics that pushed the genre forward.
Modders would eventually take the core of Half-Life and create Counter-Strike, which is currently one of the most played and streamed games out there.
Myst Release date: Top 100 computer games of the 90s 24, 1993 Publisher: Brøderbund Myst is a series gamers have all but forgotten.
This is odd considering how the original game link the best-selling PC title of the 90s.
Myst was a true adventure game that encouraged players to carefully explore every part of the island.
What makes it unique is 100 free mystery games online to play without downloading emphasis on story over combat.

Unlike most games on this list, Planescape: Torment was not a commercial top 100 computer games of the 90s />However, it was critically acclaimed due to its uniqueness.
An enhanced edition was re-released by Beamdog earlier this year on GOG.

Dark Forces became one of the best selling PC games of the 90s, inspiring a number of sequels and even a toy line.
Some of its story points would eventually make it into the larger Star Wars Expanded Universe.
During a time without much Star Wars media, this was a must-have for fans of the franchise.
It is surprising the title has not gotten a proper remaster after all of these years.
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II Release date: Sep 30, 1997 Publisher: LucasArts Since the first Dark Forces was so popular, a sequel was inevitable.
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II continues the adventures of Kyle Katarn as he searches for the Dark Jedi that murdered crown gamerpic father.
Like its predecessor, Dark Forces II is primarily an FPS.
However, players could wield a lightsaber and use The Force.
A fully functional multiplayer mode both online and local also helped make this game a classic.
Star Wars: TIE Fighter Release date: July, 1994 Publisher: LucasArts Space flight games were a dime a dozen on PC during the 90s.
The most popular of these titles was Star Wars: TIE Fighter.
In TIE Fighter, players were on the side of The Empire and were tasked with crushing the rebellion.
The gameplay was every bit as engaging as the story, and featured some of top 100 computer games of the 90s very best space battles seen at the time.
This is another title practically begging for a VR port.
Starcraft pioneered genre staples such as multiple and distinct in-game factions.
Its story is also among one of the strongest in gaming — inspiring a number of novels, expansions, and a sequel.
Starcraft even paved the way for modern eSports thanks to tournaments broadcasted live in South Korea.
Despite the existence of Starcraft II, many prefer playing the original.
System Shock 2 Release date: Aug 11, 1999 Publisher: Electronic Arts Game designer Ken Levine is best known for his work on the BioShock series.
Before that, he became a legend in the PC gaming community for helping create System Shock 2.
Though not a commercial success, System Shock 2 is an important entry in the FPS genre.
Its fusion of high-level storytelling, FPS combat, RPG-like elements, exploration, and horror atmosphere was ahead of its time.
Night Dive Studios released an updated version of System Shock 2 in 2013.
Whether it was online or local connections, players were able to shoot the holy Hell out of each other in a variety of game types.
This sort of addictive multiplayer experience was the precursor to the Call of Duty craze.
Every multiplayer-focused FPS game owes a lot to Unreal Tournament.
This is amusing considering how the franchise originally gained famed thanks to a trilogy of classic RTS titles.
Though many see Warcraft III as the pinnacle of the RTS branch of the franchise, it was Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness that truly top 100 computer games of the 90s Warcraft in the spotlight.

This list was not easy to put together considering the number of genre-defining classics released at the time.
Particularly, there is a top free 100 games for pc balance between military might and diplomacy.
Set in a fictional modern day setting, players take on the role of either the GDI Please click for source Defense Initiative or The Brotherhood of Nod.
Its sequels would add and refine elements, but the first game set a new standard for the genre that is still felt today.
Myst Release date: Sep 24, 1993 Publisher: Brøderbund Myst is a series gamers have all but forgotten.
This is odd considering how the original game was the best-selling PC title of the 90s.
Myst was a true adventure game that encouraged players to carefully explore every part of the island.
What makes it unique is its emphasis on story over combat.
Though players will inevitably find themselves in combat scenarios, players check this out advance through most of the game by using dialogue options.
Unlike most games on this list, Planescape: Torment was not a commercial success.
However, it was critically acclaimed due to its uniqueness.
An enhanced edition was re-released by Beamdog earlier this year on GOG.
Quake Release date: Jun 22, 1996 Publisher: GT Interactive Doom popularized FPS games but it was Click that helped modernize the genre.
The game featured fully 3D environments; allowing players to shoot up and down and travel through multi-level dungeons.
Its online multiplayer mode was also something unique at the time.
Unlike Doom, players had the ability to jump, crouch, and look up and down.
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II continues the adventures of Kyle Katarn as he searches for the Dark Jedi that murdered his father.
The gameplay was every bit as engaging as the story, and featured some of the very best space battles seen at the time.
This sort top 100 computer games of the 90s addictive multiplayer experience was the precursor to the Call of Duty craze.
Every multiplayer-focused FPS game owes a lot to Unreal Tournament.
This is amusing considering how the franchise originally gained famed thanks to a trilogy of classic RTS titles.
Though many see Warcraft III as the pinnacle of top 100 computer games of the 90s RTS branch of the franchise, it was Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness that truly put Warcraft in the spotlight.
